Bidding Season

Hard to believe that we have been here now for almost a year. Harder to believe that we are in the bidding process again having to select our preferred locations for our next foreign service post.

We received the preliminary list a few weeks ago but could not make our picks until those foreign service officers who are currently posted to particularly difficult posts (Baghdad, Kabul, etc.) made their selections. We certainly don't begrudge these folks the "pick of the litter" - they have clearly put in their time in service and deserve a wonderful location for their next post. But I am sad that our hope of going to Florence, Italy - albeit a long shot - was dashed and will now be lived out by someone else. Sigh....

In any case, the list is still pretty extensive and we have another week or so to fine tune the list down to 20 locations. We submit our selections at the end of August and will be notified sometime thereafter as to our new home. We are hoping to go to a non-Spanish, non-English speaking post next, so will likely spend 6 months (plus or minus) in Washington for language training between posts.

So stay tuned - we should know before the end of September where we head to next and will be delighted to share it with you all!
